Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar, nestled in the heart of the fishing village of Newlyn, Cornwall, has been a beloved local dining spot since its opening in May 2015 by Nina and Jamie MacLean. Known for its fresh, simple menu and exceptional service, it has quickly become one of the most popular restaurants in the area.
Nina approached me with a vision to elevate their online presence and streamline customer interactions. The existing website was outdated and failed to reflect the restaurant’s high level of service and meticulous attention to detail. Additionally, customers frequently asked the same questions about bookings and service times. Given that Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar operates on a no-reservations basis and the staff are extremely busy during service hours, it was crucial to create a website that could efficiently address customer queries while highlighting the restaurant’s unique offerings.

Our project began with a complete refresh of the restaurant’s branding. We updated their logo and overall brand aesthetic to ensure a cohesive and modern look that aligns with their reputation for quality and simplicity. Alongside this, we designed a new menu template that mirrored the fresh, straightforward nature of their cuisine, ensuring that the customer experience remained consistent from the moment they sat down.
Next, we turned our attention to the website. Our goal was to create a fresh, modern design that would stand the test of time and accurately reflect the restaurant’s ambience and offerings. The new website features high-quality images and a clean layout that makes navigation intuitive. To improve customer communication, we added an extensive FAQs section on the homepage and the About page to preemptively answer common questions. Instead of a traditional contact page, we created a “Find Us” page that includes a map, directions, and opening hours, making it easier for customers to locate the restaurant and understand its operating times.
The revamped website not only enhances the visual appeal but also improves functionality, providing a seamless user experience that aligns with the high standards of Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar. The updated branding and menus further reinforce the restaurant’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
