top 5 dog-friendly walks in cornwall

Cornish woodland with a stream.

porthkidney beach, hayle

Porthkidney beach is one of West Cornwall’s most popular dog-friendly beaches. Not only are dog allowed all year round, but the beach is beautifully situated at the mouth of Hayle estuary. At low tide, the beach is almost a mile long down to the ocean – giving you and your dog plenty of room to roam.

tehidy woods, camborne

Tehidy Woods near Camborne is a favourite dog walking spot with locals. There are several walking trails for every level of fitness, and with 250 acres of woodland, you will be able to tire out even the most energetic pooch.

the gannel estuary, crantock

Our favourite time to visit the Gannel Estuary, at the mouth of the Gannel River near Crantock, is at low tide. There has so much to explore; the estuary itself is full of wildlife and there are excellent views of Pentire and Crantock Beach. We suggest parking at Crantock beach car park before making your way up the river. Be sure to check tide times before you go!

padstow to harlyn bay

The coastal path between Pastow and Halyln Bay provides a beautiful long walk along the north coast of Cornwall, with spectacular views of the River Camel, the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful headlands around this area. Although this is a 6.7 mile long walk (one way) there’s plenty of opportunities to stop for a picnic so why not make a day of it?

pendennis headland, falmouth

The Pendennis Headland in Falmouth provides an easy circular walk, not far from the town’s centre. The views of Falmouth harbour on one side and St Antony’s Head on the other are specular, and the walk takes you along the iconic Falmouth landmark, Pendennis Castle, which was built in 1539 by Henry VIII. If you need a longer or more challenging walk, carry on walking along the coast to Gyllvanese beach and Swanpool beach. There is a seasonal dog ban for both beaches between Easter – 30 September.
