I may be a little biased, but St Ives is a very special place. Offering something different in every season the town is a vibrant mix of historical charm and cultural happenings. The town is a mecca for artists, being home to Tate St Ives, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and St Ives Society of Artists. It’s culinary scene rivals that of many larger towns and cities with fine dining options, award-winning burgers and sunset tapas.
If you’re wondering where to stay in St Ives I’ve handpicked some of my favourite luxury hotels, to help narrow down your search.
St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa
St Ives Harbour Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel and spa, with stunning sea views overlooking Porthminster Beach. The hotel was completely renovated in 2018 and the beautifully furnished rooms have a modern, luxurious feel. A fantastic addition to your stay will be the fact that most rooms actually come with sea views and some even have a private balcony.
The facilities in this hotel will make you feel completely at ease. The HarBAR restaurant serves fresh, seasonal food and there’s a range of delicious signature cocktails available at the bar. For those looking for some relaxation, why not spend your mornings in the hotel’s spa? Enjoy a massage in one of their peaceful treatment rooms or spend a few hours by the pool. They also have a hydrotherapy pool, a sauna and a steam room.
The hotel is a two-minute walk from St Ives train station and a twenty-minute drive from Penzance. Rooms start from £108 per night.
Primrose House is a gorgeous nine-bedroom Edwardian house conveniently situated just minutes from Porthminster beach and a short walk into the town centre and the ancient harbour. The location is superb and having on-site parking in St Ives is a real luxury.
Every room is unique, with its own character and charm. Some have super king beds and roll-top baths; others have balconies with sea views and one has French doors opening out onto a private terrace. My favourite has to be Godrevy View, a beautiful mezzanine apartment full of character, with views over the bay to Godrevy Lighthouse.
The hotel is a five-minute walk from St Ives train station. Rooms start from £112 per night and breakfast is included.
Tregenna Castle is a well-known seaside resort overlooking the St Ives Bay. As well as spectacular architecture, which you’d expect when staying in a castle, the 72- acre resort had a range of excellent facilities including an outdoor, heated swimming pool, golf course, tennis courts, and sub-tropical and formal gardens.
They have eight four rooms available, which are all light and airy and comfortably furnished. Some have sea views and they have a family suite which sleeps up to 6 people. They also have self-catering apartments available for those looking for more space and privacy. The resort is a twenty-minute walk from St Ives train station. Rooms start from £87 per night.
If you’re arriving by car head south on the A30, taking the 2nd exit from the St Erth roundabout and follow the signs to St Ives. For those arriving by train, GWR services run directly from London Paddington, and Bristol Temple Meads to Penzance. Get off at St Erth and get the branch line directly into St Ives.
